White Blank Places explores how landscapes are instilled with personal and shared emotions, thoughts, opinions and beliefs. The series reflects on emotions often thought but seldom spoken of, such as isolation, loneliness and a need for closeness.
The photographs used in the work were originally made during the winter of 2017 in the Scottish Highlands & Isles but were developed to their current form throughout 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
here upon this land we stand,
these white blank places
so desolate and lonesome
yet filled with wonder
look yonder and, any longer,
you’ll see our world’s end
